Clinical placements, volunteer hours, Allied Health Assistant roles and our Emerging Speech Pathologist internship. We work with both children and adults, so the students who train with us get a genuinely broad experience. However you first connect with NSP, there is a real future here.
Some students come to us for a university placement. Some volunteer. Some join the team as an assistant while they study. And some are ready for our internship. Here is what each one looks like.
Complete your university clinical placement with a practice that works across both children and adults. We have real experience in clinical education and structure each placement around your university's expectations and learning goals, with experienced clinicians who teach as they go, genuine caseloads and proper feedback.
University placementsSpend time in the clinic, see how a thriving practice actually runs, and start building the kind of experience that sets you apart. For many of our team, volunteering was the first step in the door.
Open to most studentsWe bring on speech pathology students as Allied Health Assistants to learn the work from the inside. These are casual roles, usually around half a day a week, so think of them as real hands-on experience alongside your studies, the kind you cannot get from a lecture theatre.
Hands-on experienceOur structured internship for final-year students. It combines a paid Allied Health Assistant role with dedicated, paid internship hours, close mentoring, and a genuine pathway toward a graduate speech pathologist role with us.
Our internship programmeMost of our team did not arrive ready-made. They grew with us, one step at a time. This is the path we know best.
Get into the clinic, learn how we work, and show us who you are.
Step into an assistant role and build real, hands-on clinical experience.
Join the Emerging Speech Pathologist Pathway with mentoring and paid hours.
A pathway designed to lead toward a graduate speech pathologist role with NSP.
Come straight to the internship? Absolutely. The path above is the one we know best, but we do not want to miss a great student. If you have found our internship without volunteering first, we still want to hear from you. Tell us where you are at and we will take it from there.
We started NSP in 2012 because we believed clinicians, and the students who become them, deserved more. More support, more mentoring, more time to do the work properly. That is still what we are building every day.
We work across both paediatric and adult clients, from early childhood through to adulthood. For a student, that breadth is rare. You see more, you learn faster, and you finish with experience you can build a career on.
Alison McDonald founded NSP and is still in clinic most weeks, with 32 years of clinical experience behind her. She believes students learn best when someone takes the time to teach them properly, not when they are left to figure it out alone.
Alongside Alison, co-director Ashley McDonald keeps the practice running so the clinical team can focus on clients and on bringing the next generation of speech pathologists through.
Everyone deserves to be heard.
We are not looking for the finished article. We are looking for the right attitude. The clinical skills, we can teach.
You want to do right by the people and families you work with.
You ask questions, take feedback well, and keep getting better.
You turn up, follow through, and can be counted on by the team.
You pitch in, support others, and want to be part of something.
One form, whichever pathway interests you. Whether you are after a placement, want to volunteer, want hands-on experience as an assistant, or are ready for the internship, this is the place to start the conversation.
Takes about a minute. We will be in touch.
